Wes Edens is the Co-Owner at Aston Villa, the Chairman of Wes Edens and Company and the founder of Fortress Investment Group LLC, a former professional basketball player for the Cleveland Cavaliers, a University of Oregon alumnus, and an advisor to President Barack Obama. Wes Edens started in finance after receiving degrees in business administration and accounting from Oregon State University. He began his career at First Boston, where he quickly climbed up the corporate ladder and became a Vice President before moving on to Lehman Brothers, where he was named President at just 34 years old.

2. Career

Upon completing his degrees, Wes Edens started his career at First Boston. He then moved on to Lehman Brothers, where he was named the President at 34. He then moved on to BlackRock Financial Management and Blackstone Group, working on multiple real estate, credit assets, hedge fund management, and financial advisory projects. He was a board member at Fortress from 1994-2005 before resigning in 2005 to start Brightline LLC alongside Rob Kauffman and Randal Nardone, which was later sold to Virgin for $1 billion.

3. Achievements

On December 22, 2013, Wes Edens purchased Aston Villa Football Club from Randy Lerner for a reported £74 million (approx: $110 million). The two parties agreed that the club would continue to play in the Premier League and attempt to qualify for European competitions. In April 2015, the club was relegated from the Premier League to the Championship. In May 2015, Villa’s plan of remaining in the top tier of English football collapsed when their bid for a place in Europe failed following their failure to beat Manchester City 4-2 on aggregate.
